Maoist politburo meeting starts amid speculation party may decide to remain in the opposition 15.06.10

The powerful politburo meeting of main opposition UCPN (Maoist) began on Tuesday to devise the party's future strategy including whether it should keep on asserting its claim to government leadership or remain in the opposition.
The meeting held at the party headquarters in Parisdanda, Koteshwor is also expected to decide on whose leadership the party should form a national consensus government it has been demanding all along.

The Maoists are learnt to have made up a mindset to even accept other party's leadership in the government if it ensures peace and constitution. This if the situation doesn't seem conducive enough for a formation of a new national consensus government under the party's leadership.

However, the recent development is in sharp contrast to the decision of Maoist Standing Committee meeting held last week which reasserted its claim on government leadership and recommended party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the sole candidate for the post of prime minister.

However, the meeting had also handed over the responsibility of making a final decision on these two issues to the politburo meeting.

At the meeting, Dahal is expected to table his political dossier in which issues like the recent three-point deal, efforts by the party to forge consensus for a national government among others have been addressed.

The politburo meeting is also set to finalize the principal modality for the integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants. nepalnews.com
