Mid and Far-Western Regions' districts are at food risk 16.01.11

The districts of Mid and Far-Western Regions are at high risk regarding food crisis, a study reveals.
As the production of the food items has been declining, the districts are also at high risk with regard to food security, according to the food right activists.

The low production of food items are attributed to illiteracy, unemployment, growing urbanisation and deforestation.

According to the National Network for Food Security (NNFS), the districts including Surkhet, Mugu, Bajura, and Dolpa are at high risk of facing food crisis, according to RSS.

During the interaction program on Friday in Birendranagar on food rights, NNFS said that the problem of starvation has been increasing because of lack of food security and food rights. So, food security and food sovereignty should be enshrined in the constitution, it added.

It also said that right to food is the fundamental rights of the people and state should fulfill and create an environment to provide food security to its people.
Nepal is in 65th position among the 88 countries reeling under food crisis, according to the study undertaken by the World Food Programme (WFP).
