UML, Maoist leaders hold secret meeting to find alternative to Khanal government 10.05.11

Top leaders of the ruling parties CPN (UML) and Unified CPN (Maoist) are learnt to have informally agreed to find an alternative to the barely few month old Jhala Nath Khanal government.
A secret meeting of top leaders of the coalition partners convened at Baneshwor on Monday thoroughly evaluated Prime Minister Khanal’s leadership in the government and decided that an alternative to the current government is a must to institutionalise the republic by taking the peace process to a logical conclusion.

Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and leader K.P Oli from the PM Khanal headed UML were present during the meeting. UCPN (Maoist) chairman Puspha Kamal Dahal and vice chairman Baburam Bhattarai represented their party during the crucial discussion.

It is learnt that leaders of both the parties felt that PM Khanal has failed to form an all-party government that he had assured to chairman Dahal during the negotiation for government formation about four months back.

UML leaders in the meeting also told the Maoist leaders that the party is not satisfied with the way PM Khanal has been running the government.

A source close to Maoist vice chairman Bhattarai told Nepalnews that the leaders informally decided to form a majority government for guaranteeing new statute by completing the ongoing peace process.

Maoist leaders told the UML participants that a majority government comprising of the Nepali Congress (NC) is a must before going for extension of the Constituent Assembly's tenure, informed the source.

The meeting also decided to bring the NC into the parley to find an alternative to Khanal led government.

The bipartite meeting of the ruling coalition is seen by political observers as very meaningful at a time when PM Khanal is out of the nation.
