Our Projects

Selecting and supporting suitable development projects, especially those that are proposed by Nepalese on their own initiative. An example is a school for 31 children who are both, mentally and in most cases also physically handicapped, attend regularly. SNS supported, together with others, the new school-building which was inaugurated in 2003.SNS contribution made it possible to establish a home visit program for children who cannot come to the day-care centre for many understandable reasons. Now 46 children are regularly visited and the parents instructed in how they can improve the condition of their cildren.

The school is situated in Butwal, was founded in 1994 by Nepalese parents who had themselves a retarded child. This school with all it’s various activities for the benefit of these children and their parents has become a pilot project for Nepal.SNA is supporting – together with Helvetas – groups of women in areas inhabited by very low-castes who may apply for short-term credits at advantageous conditions. These are being used for example for breeding goats or buying seeds for cultivating vegetables for the market.

A school-building damaged by monsoon is now nearing it’s completion. SNS supported this project , local organizations and privat people helped to complete it. This school is at Fulmro, 6 hours walk from the nearest road-head to the west of the Marsyandi valley. Communication due to the actual situation are difficult.

Criteria for Project Selection

According to our articles of association, the following sectors of cooperation are open to us:

•  development programs, humanitarian and emergency aid

•  cultural programs

•  scientific work and research projects

Every application accompanied by as many details as possible is to be presented to the SNS Board of Directors. When a project has been accepted, the SNS serves principally in a coordinating function. A supervisor or supervising committee will be chosen for each project, responsible for reporting to the Board of Directors on a regular basis concerning finances, the progress of the project and any problem which arises. In a project contract signed by both partners, reciprocal commitments and goals will be clearly stated, so that control and on-site inspection can be undertaken at any time.
