The government is all set to make education till the higher secondary level free of cost.
In the bill to amend the law regarding children, the government has proposed to remove the existing fee system from grade 9 in the secondary level up to grade 12 in the higher secondary level.

Kantipur Daily reported that the bill has been sent by the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs (MoWCS) to the Ministry of law for approval.

The government’s intention to make grade 9-12 secondary level has also been stated in the bill.

An official with the MoWCS told the daily that the bill states that the children have the right to free education till secondary level.

The bill is also intended to fulfill the government’s responsibility towards the children as stated in the International Convention on Child Rights to which Nepal is signatory to.

Until now only children from the Dalit community and impoverished Karnali region were entitled to a free education up till secondary level. nepalnews.com
