Koirala's nomination proposals disputed at NC CWC meet 28.11.10

The nominations proposed by Nepali Congress (NC) president Sushil Koirala for two vital posts - vice president and general secretary – has become very disputed at a meeting of the party's Central Working Committee (CWC) at the party headquarters, Sanepa on Sunday.
Koirala had proposed Ram Chandra Paudel for the post of vice president and Krishna Sitaula for the post of general secretary.

Not only CWC members of the Sher Bahdur Deuba camp, but those considered close to Koirala himself also expressed their dissatisfaction over the nominations.

Only two out of eleven CWC members - Anand Prasad Dhungana and Dilendra Prasad Badu – who spoke at Wednesday's meeting spoke in favour of Koirala's nominations.

The Deuba camp is miffed with the party president as he did not nominate anyone from their group for the vital posts. Likewise, those of Koirala camp got miffed with him as he did not nominate them for the post.

Arjun Narsingh KC, Ram Sharan Mahat and Sujata Koirala of the Koirala camp had been claiming for one of the vital posts.

Sujata Koirala came down heavily upon the party president and some other senior leaders while speaking at the meeting today.

She said, she did not contest for the post of general secretary at the general convention as Sushil Koirala, Krishna Sitaula and Prakash Man Singh promised her the post of vice president and that she would not trust the leaders anymore as they had not kept their words.

The CWC meeting has been postponed for 1 pm, Monday as today's meeting did not endorse (or reject) Koirala's nominations.

As per the existing provisions in NC statute, the elected president nominates a vice president, a general secretary, a deputy general secretary from among the elected CWC members and 21 CWC members from the general convention representatives.

The nominations need to be approved by the elected CWC. The elected CWC has 64 members including the president, a general secretary and a treasurer. After the nominations, the CWC will have 85 members with the president, a vice president, two general secretaries, a deputy general secretary, a treasurer and 79 CWC members.

Although, the party president and the CWC is required to constitute the full CWC and all departments under it within two months of the general convention, they have not been able to do so even after one week of the deadline.
