'NC willing to lead new government' 15.06.10

A senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) has said that if things call for it his party is ready to lead the government.
NC Vice-President Prakash Man Singh said that the Maoists and UML have already led the government, but both have failed to take the peace process to a logical conclusion.

"So if there is consensus among all the parties NC is ready to lead the government," he said speaking at a programme organized by Nepal Press Union in Palpa on Thursday.

The remark from the senior NC leader comes at a time when the second largest party in the CA is said to be least interested in leading the new national consensus government.

Singh also urged the Maoists to implement the recent three-point deal between the major three parties wherein they agreed to complete all the remaining tasks of the peace process.

"If the Maoists implement the agreement, the current government will also step down soon," he assured.

Claiming that the Maoists want to capture state power through their combatants in the cantonments and weapons, Singh said that there is little hope of Maoists turning into a civilian party until the task of Maoist army integration is complete.
